As the school year wraps up, the summer plans begin – and always with the best intentions. Then T-Ball, summer camp, holidays, and family obligations take-over and by the end of July you realize you forgot to just enjoy summer.
It’s easy to let all the commitments control your time, but making time for some laid-back, local fun will give you a chance to enjoy the warm weather and your own (or your neighbors) backyard. Find time, fun and friends with a Neighborhood Happy Hour, perfect for the whole family.
How it Works:
On your own, or with a group of nearby families institute a weekly Neighborhood Happy Hour. For example, our community chose Friday nights from 4-6PM. Each family takes turns playing host.
The time frame falls before dinner, so the host just provides some snacks, and the families attending, bring their own beverages.
No decorating, planning or cooking required – just a simple get-together where adults can connect, kids can run wild – and everyone starts the weekend off on a fun note.
Use social media to help ease coordination. Create a group on Facebook and invite local families. At the beginning of the summer have them choose the week they want to host. Families can keep in-touch on the group wall – Whether the host wants to get a heads up on how many will attend or a family needs directions.
Expand your local friend network by bringing friends (let the host know in advance) or inviting some extras from outside the neighborhood when you host at your house.
A Neighborhood Happy Hour is a simple, inexpensive, and fun way to schedule in some time to enjoy summer, friends, and your community.
